Position Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Electronics Technician to join a small, experienced hardware team developing advanced UAV electronic systems. You will work directly with hardware engineers on prototype boards, R&D drones, test setups, and the day-to-day operations of the hardware laboratory. The core of the role is practical: incoming inspection of PCBs, bench measurements, high-quality SMD soldering and rework, prototype modification, and structured validation reporting. Around this core, you will contribute to lab management, drone configuration, test bench development, and CAD/PLM support, with scope adapted to your profile and experience.
Core Responsibilities
Incoming Inspection and PCB Quality
- Perform incoming inspection of prototype, pre-series, and production PCBs: visual inspection, electrical checks, and basic functional tests according to defined procedures.
- Apply proper ESD handling practices throughout inspection, assembly, and storage.
- Identify, document, and escalate non-conformities in coordination with Hardware Engineering and Quality, and support root cause analysis.
Electrical Measurements and Hardware Validation
- Perform electrical measurements according to test plans defined with hardware engineers and write the associated structured test reports (conditions, results, deviations, conclusions).
- Use standard laboratory instruments: multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, various probes, and, when required, spectrum analyzers.
- Execute board bring-up, functional checks, integration, and performance validation of electronic boards against operational and design requirements.
- Contribute to qualification tests and environmental protection activities, including conformal coating/tropicalization of production boards.
Soldering, Rework and Prototype Modification
- Perform high-quality SMD soldering following good workmanship practices, on small components and advanced packages (0201, 0402, SOT-23, DFN, QFN, etc.).
- Carry out clean, reliable patches on prototype electronic boards.
- Assemble and modify cables, harnesses, connectors, and small electronic subassemblies.
- Perform battery pack assembly strictly according to defined procedures and lithium battery safety rules.
Hardware Laboratory and Workshop Management
- Keep the hardware laboratory and workshop organized, clean, safe, and efficient.
- Manage workshop stock and lab consumables: ordering, tracking, and storage.
- Follow up on calibration, maintenance, and availability of laboratory equipment.
- Order and track components for PCB prototyping and help prepare prototype BoMs.
Additional Responsibilities
Depending on profile and workload, the role also covers:- Configuration, update, and maintenance of R&D drones and hardware platforms, including hardware preparation for other teams (tests, demonstrations, validation campaigns).
- Design, build, and documentation of simple hardware test benches based on Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar platforms, and improvement of existing setups for repeatability and ease of use.
- Creation and maintenance of electronic components in OrCAD/KiCad libraries (symbols, footprints, metadata) and support of the component database in the PLM system.
- Production of small mechanical fixtures and lab tools using 3D printing.
Required Qualifications
- Technician ES/HF in electronics, electrical engineering, or industrial systems; or CFC in electronics/automation with solid hands-on experience in an R&D, production, or laboratory environment.
- French BTS, DUT/BUT, or equivalent European technical diploma in electronics is equally relevant.
- 2+ years of practical experience in electronics, hardware validation, PCB assembly, or laboratory testing.
- Strong hands-on soldering, PCB modification, and bench diagnostic skills.
- Ability to read schematics, BoMs, assembly drawings, and technical procedures, with a good understanding of basic analog, digital, and power electronics.
- Ability to follow test procedures, record results accurately, and write clear technical reports.
- Structured, precise, autonomous, and quality-oriented working style.
- Languages: fluent French required; technical English is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in UAVs, robotics, aerospace, avionics, or embedded/industrial electronic products.
- Familiarity with IPC workmanship standards (e.g. IPC-A-610 / IPC-7711-7721) or equivalent good soldering practices.
- Experience with OrCAD, Allegro, KiCad, or similar ECAD tools, and with PLM or component database management.
- Experience with battery assembly, conformal coating/tropicalization, or RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers.
- Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi) and 3D printing for fixtures and small tools.
Work Environment
This is a hands-on, on-site role based in Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne, within a small hardware team. The position involves daily work in the hardware laboratory, workshop, and drone integration areas. Occasional support to field tests or validation campaigns may be required.Legal Requirements
A valid Swiss work permit or EU/EFTA citizenship is required.About EagleNXT
